Sawknee is a project led by me Alexander Kim, I was born in the quiet beach town of Sarasota, Florida but now call New Orleans, Louisiana home.
Sawknee means echo a name I chose intently, for my wish is that the music I create can echo all over the world impacting positive change in the many ways that music can.
Music has always had an important role in my life. My mom put me into piano lessons at a young age and I began to play baritone in my school band in middle school, both which I enjoyed. However I chose to put music aside for several years in pursuit of my passion for flameworking and teaching yoga. Both which impacted me in deeply profound ways and provided lessons that allowed me to grow. Lessons that are forever engrained in me and that I will be forever grateful for.
However I began to feel called back to music to explore creating my own music, this calling was catalyzed by a gift from my mom. A Native American Flute, a beautiful instrument with deep, rich, soulful tones. I was instantly able to connect deeper with myself and the world around me through this instrument.
In parallel I have always loved and been a fan of many genres of music especially within electronic music, constantly exploring and finding new sounds and songs that I resonate with while working behind the torch or in my off time at music festivals of all kinds.
Shortly after picking up the NAF I went head first into the wonderful and wild world of producing within Ableton. This combination of natural and electronic sounds are what inspire me today. To continually learn, create, and develop my music so that I can have a positive impact on myself and the world in this new chapter of my life.
